[Video] Roman Ruins: “Mighty Love”

My friend and Seattle, Washington filmmaker Tyler Matthew Coray returns with another exceptionally picturesque music video for Roman Ruins’ “Mighty Love.” And although the theme of the video is arguably unsavory at times, the landscape, which seems to take place in the same neck of the woods as THIS is otherworldly. Enjoy…

The-Drum: “Run You”

This highly experimental lo-fi duo out of Chicago, Illinois have slowly (but surely) crept into my fogged peripheral with their heavily paralyzing new-ish single “Run You.” The track, courtesy of a split called The-Drum vs. Sich Mang (pictured above) fuses dreamy atmospheres with worldly drum rhythms. The outcome, as you’d imagine, is indescribably breathtaking. And with just the right amount of vocal manipulation throughout, “Run You” indeed runs the show…

Time Wharp: BLK EP

Time Wharp – BLK

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Just 3 months after releasing the short (but sweet) GRN EP, 21-year-old producer phenom Time Wharp returns with another color-coded beauty in BLK. His debut on Astro Nautico, BLK includes 4 Time Wharp originals and 3 remixes, made with care by brethren of the Astro Nautico family. The outcome is again short and sweet, another eye blinking course on futuristic, rapid-fire production. But when you continuously set the bar so high for yourself, it’s only natural to desire blatant progression from release to release, no mater the distances apart. With trophies like later., GRN and BLK already sitting pretty on this youngsters mantle, the next step is obvious. It’s time for a full-length.

Young Pharaohs: “Mr. 100″

Young Pharaohs – Mr. 100

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Just like the Miami Heat (couldn’t resist), Denver’s King Mob mile-high’s Young Pharaohs spent most of 2011 assembling, disassembling and reassembling all over again. It was a grueling task, but a process that needed to happen in order for this funkified r&b trio to guarantee latter success. Now, over a year later, they return; reborn, renamed, and ready to take their spot atop the future-sex thrown of 2012. Where singles like “Mr. 100″ have infinite room to bask in their forward-thinking greatness.

Look for a TBA Chill Mega Chill release from Young Pharaohs in the coming months. Can’t wait!

[Speaker Snacks Recs // R.I.P.] Top Girls: After Life EP (SSR012)

Like I said last week, this will indeed be my final Speaker Snacks Recs release. I had an incredible time building this talented little family, but the time has come to explore other ventures. Many thanks to each and every supporter of this label, I couldn’t have done this without you. New project coming soon…

After Life sees Evan Adams (Top Girls) further exploring his “limitations” (or lack thereof) as an r&b enthusiast. His vocals are crisper than ever, and the instrumentation does an honest job staying neck and neck with his high-flying lyricism. One thing’s still crystal clear though, his voice is his greatest attribute, steering the ship throughout. If After Life proves anything, it’s that Adams is finally finding his happy place behind the mic, a place we’ll surely get used to sooner than later.

Tracklist ::
1. It’s Over
2. After Life
3. Set Fire
4. I’ve Got Some Doubts
5. Next Year

[Album Stream] Porcelain Raft: Strange Weekend

Speaking directly from my heart (as Mauro Remiddi would say), Porcelain Raft’s new Strange Weekend LP is one of the best full-length releases the music world has scene in years. A fluent masterpiece, from front to back. He really pored his blood, sweat and tears into this bad boy.
